AbOut the Space Cookies
The Space Cookies are a high school robotics team founded in 2006 as a partnership between NASA and Girl Scouts to inspire and prepare the next generation of technology leaders.
Since then, we have grown into an award-winning team, recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for our competitive robots, extensive outreach, and commitment to teaching every Space Cookie engineering and leadership skills. 100 percent of our alumnae attend college and 85 percent have pursued STEM majors.
Our members attend 24 different high schools across the Bay Area. Team members participate in a wide range of training workshops developed and taught by Space Cookies, learning skills from robot design, programming, and fabrication to finance, marketing, and communications.
These skills translate to our success both on and off the competition field. We are a nine-time recipient of the Impact Award [formerly the Regional Chairman's Award], the highest honor in FRC. In 2017, we became the first all-girls team to reach the finals at FIRST Championships.
We spread the FIRST message of education and inclusiveness, focusing our outreach on girls and other youth typically underrepresented in STEM fields.
We help girls engage with STEM activities and encourage them to pursue an interest in STEM from an early age. We attend major Girl Scout events to demo our robot and have helped hundreds of girls earn STEM badges.
We devote more than 2,000 hours to community service each season; participation in more than 30 outreach events allows us to demonstrate the potential of girls in STEM to thousands of people.
Over the years, our mentorship of 46 FLL, FTC, and FRC teams has allowed us to teach, encourage, and inspire other future engineers. The connections we've made within FIRST are invaluable.
